Square Enix has trademarked "Hitman: Profession," leading many to speculate this is the 'premium quality' instalment alluded to by the publisher last month. The trademark was registered on 22nd December 2011, around the same time Square Enix revealed intentions to expand its Eidos Montreal studio and open a new second studio, Square Enix Montreal, in 2012.

The new studio's first project was teased as "a new premium quality game" in the Hitman franchise. IO Interactive studio head, Niels Sorensen, has said the part of the studio will be moving on to a new IP after it has wrapped up work on Hitman: Absolution, while the remainder will assist on the new project.

Of course it's also possible Hitman: Profession is an ancillary tie-in project akin to Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Embers.
