Square Enix has trademarked Hitman: Sniper Challenge in Europe, leading to fresh speculation about the name of the new Hitman instalment alluded to by the publisher in November. While IO Interactive is working on Hitman: Absolution, Square Enix recently announced plans to open a new Montreal studio this year. Its first project will be "a new premium quality game" in the Hitman franchise.
Could it be named Hitman Sniper Challenge, or even Hitman: Profession, another title that Square Enix trademarked in Europe earlier this month. Hitman: Sniper Challenge sounds more like some kind of tie-in project or downloadable game than a fully-fledged title, but then again,
perhaps these two taglines are actually tied to Hitman: Absolution, which is set to launch later this year. You never know; it could be a budget-priced motion-based game that makes use of the Move and/or Kinect.
What we do know is that a new Hitman game is under production (with IO supervision) at the Square Enix studio in Montreal. IO Interactive studio head, Niels Sorensen, has said the part of the studio will be moving on to a new IP after it has wrapped up work on Hitman: Absolution.
