Take-Two assured investors said in a financials call yesterday that development of Grand Theft Auto V is "making great progress", despite staying well away from determining a window of release. Analysts expect Grand Theft Auto V to launch in Take-Two's upcoming financial year - ending 31st March 2013 - despite an increasingly crowded release schedule for the publisher, but the firm chose not to address talks of a release date during today's call.
T2 boss Strauss Zelnick said :
"Grand Theft Auto V is making great process."
Without going into specifics, Zelnick offered assurance the the game "promises to continue Rockstar's incredible track record of delighting fans by raising the bar in interactive entertainment".

EMI Working to Secure "Hidden Gems" for 'Grand Theft Auto V' Music Links : Comments | Forum Topic | Posted by Matt Stanyon | Date : Monday 23rd January 2012 @ 20:00 PM GMT
EMI has previously provided tunes for the Grand Theft Auto series and is apparently ready to work with Rockstar again as the music publishing giant is working to secure "hidden gems" from its giant audio catalogue for use in Grand Theft Auto V.
"Over the years, the Grand theft Auto series has provided EMI Music Publishing with a unique opportunity to get sync placements for some hidden gems in our catalogue that otherwise may not have landed in the world of video games."
"We look forward to working with Rockstar Games on future versions of this fantastic series and to continuing to deliver value to our songwriters in this regard."
The track which accompianed the initial reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake by The Small Faces, is so far the only song confirmed to be in the game. Unfortunately Rockstar Games has yet to announce a release date or launch platforms for Grand Theft Auto V, although the first footage of the game suggested the title was already well into development.
'Grand Theft Auto III' & 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City' Rated for PS3 by ESRB Links : Comments | Forum Topic | Posted by Matt Stanyon | Date : Monday 23rd January 2012 @ 12:40 PM GMT
Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City has been rated for the PlayStation 3 by the ESRB. While there's been no official announcement regarding re-releases of the these classic titles, the ESRB lists Sony Computer Entertainment America as the publisher of the games.
The classification hints at PlayStation Network re-releases for the Rockstar classics via the 'PS2 Classics' section, which would appear to be the safest bet, although HD updates would of course be nice, so it seems like there is a high chance that sadly these will not be HD re-releases but mere straight PS2 downloads with no improvements, but still, they'll be nice to have in your collection.
There's no official word from Rockstar on this, so we don't know of any release dates or pricing information. We're also not sure why San Andreas has curiously been left out, and/or if it may appear at a later date. Hopefully both Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will show up for Xbox 360 soon too.
On a slightly related note, this year will be Vice City's 10th anniversary. If Rockstar are planning similar things to what they've been doing for GTA3, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we see Vice City appearing on iOS and Android later this year either.
Analysts Believe 'Grand Theft Auto V' Will Launch Before April 2013 Links : Comments | Forum Topic | Posted by Matt Stanyon | Date : Wednesday 18th January 2012 @ 20:00 PM GMT
Analysts expect Grand Theft Auto V to launch in Take-Two's upcoming financial year (ending March 31, 2013), despite an increasingly crowded release schedule for the publisher, so in the 12 months beginning 1st April 2012, Take-Two currently plans to launch Max Payne 3, BioShock Infinite, Borderlands 2, Spec Ops: The Line, XCOM and XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
According to National Alliance Capital Markets analyst Mike Hickey – speaking to Game Informer - fans don't have too long to wait for GTA V, as Take Two and Rockstar are likely to launch the game by year's end. Here is what he said :
"It seems unlikely that Rockstar Games would launch both Max Payne 3 and GTA 5 in the month on May. Therefore, we have shifted our original expectation for GTA V to launch in May 2012, into the Company's 2013 fiscal second-half operating period." (release window: Sept. 2012 – March 2013).
"We remain confident GTA V will ship in calendar year '12, based on an assumption that Rockstar is using a sub 12 month marketing window for GTA V and the company's fiscal 2013 performance guidance, which would suggest the game's release."
EEDAR's Jesse Divnich said :
"[Take-Two] are still saying they will achieve $2.00 earnings per share in fiscal 2013, so Grand Theft Auto V has to come out by March 2013."
Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter commented :
"Although GTA V may still launch in FY:13, predicting the actual release date is difficult due to a crowded pipeline."
"I don't know if [Max Payne's delay] means a full year gap, but very likely six months. Too bad, as I think Grand Theft Auto V would benefit from giving Call of Duty some breathing room."
Analysts including Pachter and Hickey previously predicted a summer 2012 release for GTA V, but so far we have little more than a teaser trailer to go on, so remain cautiously optimistic folks.
The things is that this much is clear so far, history shows Take-Two likes to release its big games in May, and Grand Theft Auto V is its biggest game ever. A release for GTA V this year still seems likely, but don't be surprised to see it slip to May 2013.
