Ted Price Talks About the End of Insomniac-Developed 'Resistance' Games Links : Comments | Forum Topic | Posted by Matt Stanyon | Date : Friday 27th January 2012 @ 09:20 AM GMT
Earlier today, news broke that Insomniac Games would definitely no longer make any Resistance games, much to the despair of series fans and devastated us on Hybrid Games. Now, CEO Ted Price has confirmed the end of their involvement, and spoken about why they have moved on.
"Some of you may have seen the headlines we inadvertently made through an interview I did, where I confirmed that we are not making any more Resistance games," a calm Price pronounced. "Now this is not the first time that those of us at Insomniac have said this, but today it was big news."
"So I did want to confirm it, face to face, that we are not moving on with the Resistance franchise."
"We believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion in terms of the story that we wanted to tell. However, that doesn't mean the Resistance franchise isn't continuing; it's already in the capable hands of Nihilistic, and Sony's shepherding. We know that it will continue to live on and expand. And we're excited, as fanboys, to see where it goes."
"But I wanted to thank all of you, our fans, and certainly those of you who have played Resistance, for coming with us on this journey from Resistance 1 all the way through [to] Resistance 3. Your enthusiasm, your comments and your critiques have been extremely helpful and rewarding for us at the same time."
"We're very much looking forward to having you with us as we move onto other games such as Overstrike. So, thank you very much for your support."
Insomniac released the following video on YouTube titled “A Message from Ted Price”. Price said the developer believes the series has reached its "logical conclusion", but that doesn't mean the franchise won't continue with Sony. Check it out below :

So while Insomniac continues its journey towards multiplatform development, something Sony has admitted isn't ideal, that doesn't mean the platform holder won't be releasing more games based on the Resistance IP, because Sony does own the Resistance IP, not Insomniac, so this certainly isn't the end of the franchise, but it is the end of Insomniac at the series' helm.
Luckily, the there will be Resistance: Burning Skies from Nihilistic Software for the PlayStation Vita later this year, but after that the future of the franchise is unclear, and it seems like the franchise's support clearly waning, its best days are behind it, and it's unknown if we will see another game after the PS Vita release. Should Sony kill off the Resistance franchise after Resistance: Burning Skies and move on?
Insomniac Confirms it 'Won't be Making Any More Resistance Games' Links : Comments | Forum Topic | Posted by Matt Stanyon | Date : Thursday 26th January 2012 @ 13:20 PM GMT
CEO Ted Price says the developer is finished with the FPS series with the long-time PlayStation exclusive developer Insomniac Games saying it has no plans to make any more Resistance games. That's according to CEO Ted Price, who told VG247:
"We won't be making any more Resistances."
Price's comments confirm the suggestion that Insomniac - now working on Overstrike for EA and smaller games for its new Insomniac Click division - was done with the PlayStation exclusive shooter series following comments from creative director Marcus Smith in August last year.
"We've done Resistance 3 and we're really into it and proud of it, but we're not currently slated to do a Resistance 4. So it would be hard to say it's any kind of lynchpin within Insomniac. I think we're thriving and branching out in a lot of different directions."
"We've got a lot of different places for the universe to go, so I could certainly see the series going to another developer. I'm sure Sony would want to find a high calibre developer to do a good offering. I don't think they'd hand the franchise over to somebody who is going to screw it up."
"We recognise we have a very loyal fanbase among Sony players, and we love them."
"We're definitely dedicated to them. However, we've always wanted to reach out to an even broader audience. The Xbox 360 audience has been a viable, vibrant audience for a long time. This was just a chance to do that."
Insomniac has been a PlayStation-exclusive developer for 15 years. Overstrike, due out on Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation 3, is its first multiplatform game.
The studio's clearly keen to move on then, even if Insomniac writer Jon Paquette believes there's more to come from the Resistance universe. "I think it's still fertile ground," he said last September, pointing towards upcoming PlayStation Vita title Resistance: Burning Skies, which was handled by Nihilistic Software. Sony Bend made Resistance Retribution on PSP. Which studio will Sony task with creating Resistance 4?
So while Insomniac continues its journey towards multiplatform development, something Sony has admitted isn't ideal, that doesn't mean the platform holder won't be releasing more games based on the Resistance IP, because Sony does own the Resistance IP, not Insomniac, so this certainly isn't the end of the franchise, but it is the end of Insomniac at the series' helm.
